I was reading one of my favorite feminism blogs, Skepchick.org, when I came across this sentence:
Is that true? How is it different? I have to wonder, because this quote comes from an article about the phenomenon of dudes sending unasked for dick pictures. I really relate to the article. I present as gay on several online dating sites and the ol' inbox just fills up with pictures of dudes' penises despite my profile explaining that I'm not looking for a quick hookup and don't want to see your dong, because I can pretty much imagine what it looks like, they all look the same, send a picture of your damn face instead.
I suppose my position is that I assume that the sort of genital-centric narcissism that causes gay dudes to send me their dick pictures is the same sort of thing that causes strait men to send pictures of their penis to women. This assumption, or need, that an object of their desire should admire their penis seems similarly objectionable whether you're a gay man or a strait woman.
"A gay man sending a picture of his penis (whether solicited or not) to another gay man is its own phenomenon, distinct from that of women being sent unsolicited peen pics."
